Electronic help

yo, so I've been having problems installing my new pups into my 1527.

It's a blaze custom for the bridge and AN for the neck. I've wired the guitar twice now, the same both times...the first time the bridge worked fine but I got alot of buzz and weak signal from all other positions . So I yanked it all out and re-soldered every connection with fresh wire. Now the bridge works again and I'm getting nothing from any of the other positions .

So, my questions:

1: Does anyone have a definitive wiring diagram to put these pups in this guitar. The 1527 diagram on Ibby's site is a little different because the stock bridge is only a 3 wire. I found info in another thread saying to combine the green wire with the ground and the black wire with the white for the bridge, and that seems to work fine. The original neck was 5 wire, so I wired the AN the same way as stock...only it's not working. Is it possible the colors for the Ibby pup and the AN are different and I have them connected to the wrong spot?

2: Somebody mentioned that the switch might be bad. If the switch fails, can it partially fail? Meaning some positions might work and not others? If so, what brand of 5 way switches do you guys recommend?

3: The back plate on the blaze custom causes the pup to sit quite high out of the body, even though I have it screwed down as far as it will go. Anyway around this without routing?

I've spent about 7 hours working on this guitar over the last 2 days, and I'm getting frustrated, as I don't get alot of free time for projects like this. I would hate to pay somebody to finish this project if the problem is something simple like 2 switched wires or a bad switch .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, just an aside, the tremol-no I got works pretty damn good; I recommend.

The pickup color codes are different between Dimarzio and IBZ. Go download the wiring diagram for an RG7620 or 7621. Those came stock with Dimarzios and use the same pickup selector, so their wiring diagram is exactly what you're looking for.

Did you remove the foam and there's still not enough clearance? Then you'll either have to file away some wood or shim the neck pocket.

If the pickup route on the 1527's is the same as the route on the other RG7's, then the pickup height shouldn't be a problem. In fact, it should end up just about right.

the wires exit the dimarzio on the bottom, while they exited more from the side on the stock pup, so I took the foam off the stock pup and put it on the dimarzio...if I screw it down without anything there, the pup doesn't sit level in the route because of the wire. I'll check out the wiring diagrams.

I don't know if the route is the same as other RG7s, but the pickup by itself is at least a half inch taller than the stock pup.

I don't know if the route is the same as other RG7s, but the pickup by itself is at least a half inch taller than the stock pup.
My stock Ibanez pickups, which were also thinner than Dimarzios, used a metal baseplate with either extended tabs, sorta like Seymour Duncan, or lots of memory foam, I can't remember exactly which. At any rate, that's fine, because the Dimarzio bridge pickup fits in the cavity with NO extended tab or memory foam, and fits perfectly, even though it's thicker (the tabs/and-or/foam is just used to compensate). The stock size of the Dimarzio, at least on MY Ibanez, puts the pickup in basically the perfect spot, at just about the right distance from the strings. Zero routing needed.

Alright, I think I will remove the foam from the pups and see if I can get them to sit level in the route, and see what the height is...

Another question: when I installed the tremol-no, my ground wire that runs from tone pot to trem claw ended up being too short to reach the ground pin on the claw...can I just use a different length of wire? If so, what kind of wire, and where is a good place to get it? Or can I just move that wire from the tone pot to the volume pot? (cause that would be much closer and I could easily use the same length of wire)

Thanks for the responses.

I would just use another piece of wire and connect to two. *shrug* Simple solutions are the easiest. It's still conductive, and that's what counts.

K, simple enough...but where do I get more wire? do they sell usable stuff at like home depot or someplace like that? is it just typical electrical wire? does anybody know what gauge to use? does anybody else hate it when somebody drinks almost all the milk but puts the carton back in the fridge and then you go to pour it on your crunchberries and there isn't enough? I fuckin hate that

i think i said something in the other thread... did you check the switch? The stock ibanez ones do fry very easily.. especially the newer ones... if worst comes to worse, try a new switch.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

I really don't know the exact answers here, but again, if it were me, I'd just use some regular ol' wire. If it conducts electricty, it'll work. Matching the size and gauge up is probably a good idea, but really, it doesn't really matter shit, as long as the wire works.
