Pickups for Ibanez S-7420 The definitive thread!

It seems that there's some kind of S-7420 horde invading the ss.org forum, so I think that would be better if we put all the opinions in one thred alone. Remember that is a Mahogany guitar with maple neck, rosewood fretboard, blah, blah, blah

For now, I'll pick a Jazz for the neck and ¿?¿?¿? for the bridge, because finally the luthier asked so much money for putting EMGs on it

Opinions wanted!

Dumple Stilzkin will become famous soon enough
My buddy had one of the ibanez hardtail 7's thats kinda shaped like an obese sg, we tried a few pickups, but stuck with the EVO. He used a triple xxx, if that helps. The tone wasnt my favorite, but for the extreme metal tone he was going for, it sounded good. NO MUD, very important!

I finally installed a Jazz/JB combo, and it's impressive. It's very different to Dimarzios I have on the other guitars and It will take me some time for getting used to it, but both pickups had an awesome clarity and definition. The JB is a really screaming bitch!

Welcome to the Duncan side of the house...

Spend some time with all sorts of different gain (and clean) settings on the neck pickup. You'll quickly see that it simply the greatest neck pickup that you buy, short of spending hundreds of dollars on something custom wound. Even then, I can't think of a single way to improve upon it. All that clarity, it handles gain well, it doesn't fart or mud out, notes just seem to leap out of it. Duncan needs to endorse me, because I've sold at least fifty people on that pickup.

Spend some time messing with the height of the JB, because it is extremely sensative to playing style and string distance. I've got mine in a sweet spot where it stays clean when I want it to, and roars when I dig in. Complaints that it sounds to boomy or too squealy can be traced to players putting them too far away or too close respectively.

The natural tone of the S7420FM is downright inspiring. It is just one of the best guitars I've ever played, despite being one of the cheapest. DiMarzios sound amazing with it. I have a Blaze Neck model in the bridge and it's absolutely ridiculous. The tone is so unique, warm, full, articulate, everything you could ever want. I really would try one of those DiMarzios. I've been a lifelong Seymour Duncan fan, those are great too, but everyone uses a JB, try something new

I know a guy who has a S7420FM identical to mine, but has Duncans in there, and it just doesn't sound nearly as good. His sounds great, but the character of the treble was kind of compressed and processed sounding compared to mine. That being said, I love Duncans too, I just think the JB is kind of bland. As for the Jazz neck pickup, I agree that pickup is phenominal but I like the PAF7 a bit more.
