Fret Question...

Hello good people of the world.

If you have a fret that is a little higher than the rest, why would a luthier suggest doing a full fret job. Can't a competent luthier just find the one that is to high and polish it a little until it's the same as the rest?

What's the deal? I mean, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.

to a point yes, that said, theres and element of while youre at it, just get it all done

Is the hundred bucks a fair wage for that kind of job? What does this kind of thing usually go for, and can I expect the sides of the frets to smoothed down...any other thing that is usually included in the job?

A hundred dollars is a very, very fair cost.

The issue with the single fret is the weakest link issue: you fix the one bad one, but it will probably just reveal the next worst fret that you didn't notice before. In that case, if one is bad, it probably means there are others, so it's in your best interest to just get them all done and have a perfect playing instrument.

Fair enough. I think I'll just get er done then. Now to decide between Plek'n or regular old manual style.

But that's another story I guess. I'm sure it's been brought up already.
