LED Fret Markers
Now I am hoping that some one here can either help me out with this or point me to someone that can. I want to put LEDs in my neck linlays so they light up when I go on stage. Not just so it looks cool, but cause my left eye is half blind and it is hard for me to see the fret inlays in the dark. Now I know Sims does it out in the UK, but for me to ship a guitar all the way out there from Chicago could be kinda costly. Does anyone know of anybody here in America that does the same thing as Sims does, as close to Chicago as posible? Or how can I go about doing it myself? I know I would have to take out the inlays with a sodern iron, done it before. But what kind of LEDs would I use? Or would it be fiber optics with a sorta LED base that is locaded in the body? I tried to search online for this sorta thing and came up with nothing. I have asked a ton of people, so now I come to all of you for your advice. And yes it is a 7-string that I am doing this to.
Thank for any help you can give me |

I think fiber optics would be a better bet as you could route it to make any necessary repairs much less painful. LEDs would require you to remove inlays if anything went wrong.

well, a question is, are you going to do the led lights on the side like metalfiend just showed which seems like a good company or do you want them where its in the middle of the fretboard. I know that the guy from LGM guitars does them as well. He has a pretty nice vine inlay thats all LED so im pretty sure you could see it while your playing. Im assuming that metalfiends would be much better to see but im not to sure. Sorry to hear about your eye.I believe someone on this site has some guitars done by fret FX. Hopefully they'll post some information.

Yeah I heard about Fret FX, and I might go for it, but I want the inlays in the middle to light up. I've read some online tutorials about removing the neck and all that, I don't think I have the skills to do that, I dont want to ruin the guitar. Its an RG7321. And the fiber optic idea sounds alot better than the led idea. I might have to get both my 7s done. the other is an s7420. But thank you guys for all the help.
I check out LGM guitars, holly shit, if its in my price range then ill go with them, other wise Fret FX here i come. Thank you guys so much, your all rock. Last edited by Mykie; 03-10-2006 at 12:29 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

The Fret FX are worth every penny on a dark stage. I have them on all 3 of my sevens, and I couldn't be happier with their performance. Actually, the blues and the greens are almost TOO bright on the "HIGH" setting. I know they won't do exactly what you're trying to do, but for the money (less than $80 shipped) you can't beat 'em.
There's a picture of them in the gallery, if you want to see how they look. Last edited by NewArmyGuitar; 03-10-2006 at 12:40 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I guess he would be the American equivalent to SIMS when it comes to L.E.D inlays.
POOF!
