What I've heard - muddy, dark, loud, bassy.

Doesn't sound like the best pickup for a 7, but then again, it depends in part also on what type of guitar you're playing it in (wood, tone pots, strings, scale), what type of amp, what type of EQ settings...

So, it depends. Just based on specs, however, I would personally go for a cleaner/lower output pickup.

Akrin is a jewel in the rough
I have one in my H207. It sounds huge, but when you try to play a fast riff, it just turns to sludge. Not a lot of definition. I think I'm going to try a Duncan Custom.

the reason im thinkin about this pup is karl sanders uses it and his guitars are huge sounding and clear .ive heard that it is clear plus i use large strings and they overpower the stock pickups in my agathis seven

Clear is the last term I've heard used to describe the SD Invader, but I have no personal experience. From their tone charts, they're all mids/low mids/bass, and that is a recipe for anything BUT clear.

My 02 cents. If you want CLEAR, I'd consider something else. Some candidates...

1. Dimarzio Blaze (both the neck and bridge models are very clear, and some use the neck pickup in the bridge position for an even clearer tone, albeit with less power).
2. Dimarzio PAF7 - extreme, low output clarity and articulation.
3. SD Jazz 7 - same boat as the Dimarzios mentioned above. Tonally a bit like the PAF7s, and some people love the jazz in the bridge (which smokes. I've heard it).
4. EMG 707 - my personaly favorite. Lots of output (they're active pickups), but the ultimate in clarity.
5. Lundgren Model M - the Meshuggah pickup. Exspensive, but designed for low tunings. Lows of power, and sounds a bit like an EMG.

There are some other high-power alternatives, that are not as intrinsically clear, but have a lot of treble on tap, for a still-articulate sound (SD JB-7 and Dimarzio EVO 7 come to mind). I'm going to be trying out the new Dimarzio D-Sonic 7 in a few weeks, and will post a review. This pickup is designed to be clear under low tunings. We'll see.

If you already have your mind made up, then why ask for opinions?

Not that it's a problem, mind you. Just odd, I guess. But you never know unless you try, and it's your $80, afterall.

So basically you just wanted someone to tell you that the Invader was awesome and to go for it, dude! Right?

Again, it's your dime. Let us know the results!
