Unhappy My name is Charlie and I am an Idiot

So, I am wanting to start getting more into tinkering with my own guitars instead of running to a tech every time... So I have the RG 570 with the stock pups, I find a used tone zone on the bay for 30 bucks.............. I get out my trusty sodering iron and go to town!!

I get the pickup in and then I realize how smart I am....... its not an F spaced So I will probably yank it out and sell it again.... and get a F spaced... but it does not sound that bad......

What is the big issue that you will have with a normal pup where an F spaced should be??

Thanks

PS

There really isnt a huge issue - its just the poles wont line up with the strings. The pup will still work but ...

you really shouldn't have any "big issue". as djpharoah already mentioned, the poles not lining up exactly with the strings...

does everything sound ok? if so, don't worry about it. i've put standard spaced pickups in place of F spaced before and didn't notice anything drastically different.

Is seems to sound ok but now my wife tells me that the white pickup looks too 80's......

I mean come on I grew up on Hair Metal

So me thinks that I will take it out and get a black one.... the tone does seem to sound pretty sweet though.... I think that the Tone Zone is what I want in there...

the tonezone is an awesome pickup dude. and white pickups rock

it will work fine, just might look a bit funny

The only issue im aware of (not even sure to what degree this is, ive never had that issue) is that it pushes the threshold of how close you can set a pickup to the strings before it starts pulling them out of tune just a hair farther, since the magnet is also pulling to the side instead of just down on the outside strings. Ive got no experience with it though

Reverse Headstocks or Bust

If you've ever compared the dimensions, the diference between F spaced and non F spaced is next to fuck all. It's just a visual thing.

neoclassical is a jewel in the rough
I remember a time when there were no F spaced or trembucker pups. We just had to use a regular pup, and all our guitars came with regular spaced pups stock. We survived till about 1990ish when the trembucker caught on. You won't notice much if any difference.

I've never noticed any difference at all, and I've had several guitars that had Floyds and regular-spaced PUs.

Actually, if anything, the extra coil length typically makes pickups like the Tone Zone and the JB sound worse--the regular-spaced ones always seem to sound fatter and less harsh, though the difference usually isn't that dramatic.

It really only works with lower output pickups--I'm talking about alnico II magnets--that absolutely need the poles directly under the strings. With modern (alnico V and ceramic) magnets, the combined magnetic field is so broad that you absolutely will not run into problems.

I have yet to run into an F-spaced humbucker that I have liked. They are all thing and harsh to me.
