Help Me Mod My Strat!!!

Right, ive decided to mod my Strat, i like the guitar and dont want to get another one at the moment as im fine with its playability etc... But the sounds it produces arnt want i want from it, i want to Hot Rod it a good bit.

I am either going with a HSS or a HSH layout, i was thinkign about a HH Layout, but i already have a couple of HH Guitars.

So far ive decided that im getting theese:

BKP Miracle Man (Bridge)
BKP Cold Sweat (Neck) [If i go with a HSH]
Seymour Duncan Little 59' (Neck) [If i go with a HSS]
Ernie Ball 5 way switch upgrade
2X 500K CTS Pots

I already have a 500K push pull post for coil splitting.

1] I want a little help with what middle pickup i should go with, bear in mind that i have a hot bridge pickup, i want something thats hot, but not overpoweringly hot, does anyone have any recomendations for either the HSH or HSS layouts for this.

2] Cosmetically, whitch of the following pickgaurd colours would look best on a Wine Red strat with a Maple neck, and what colour of pickups should i get; chrome, black or open black???

Black 3-ply pickguard is the shit. Get a Dimarzio chopper if you can find one.

Of the two, the pearloid. That said, on that guitar I'd leave it plain white. A lot of people would probably dig black, but I've never been big on the red guitar/black pickup thing...

Don't go HSH, and by that I also mean don't stick a mini humbucker in the neck either (unless you have it on a push-pull coil tap, of course). Everyone knows the entire point of a Stratocaster is the neck single coil - just ask David Gilmour.

I wouldn't go super-high-output in the bridge position either, so it balances a little better.

Finally, I'd swap out the trem. For a six point, this Wilkinson is probably your best bang-for-buck option if it's even half as nice as my 2-point Wilkinson.

I would probably also go with the pearloid one, but maybe try looking for a mint or parchment colored pickguard.

they have an awesome selection at GUITAR PARTS RESOURCE

i can't help too much with the pickups. I used an EMG 81/S/S set that was pretty cool and now i'm using a Seymour duncan JB/Hot Rails/Hot Rails. fun setups.

How about moving the tone control for the middle pickup to the bridge pickup?

I done it to my Strat and Eric Johnson does it to his. It makes the bridge pickup sound fatter and less shrill. I love it.

As for pickups, I'd say go for something that's powerful but still has the Strat character. That's what makes a strat, a strat.

HSS, definitely! the middle and neck single coils are far more useful than the bridge one.

i have no clue what pickups you should get though :P
