Picstory: EMG81 into Ibanez MTM2

so it finally arrived today

mmm... EMG81 + goodies

meet it's new host:

brand new ibanez mtm2 that arrived last monday: New guitar day !!! (56k: 'seven' inlay)

stock ibanez V8 unmounted:

now comes the shitty part.... the EMG81 won't fit in the PU route

it's probably a matter of less than 1mm since the EMG doesn't really appear to be larger or wider than the covered stock V8. WTF!!?

anyway, i taped the top and proceeded to rasp the corners using a round standard round wood rasp.

i probably ended up rasping off less than 1mm on each corner and the EMG would already fit flawlessy.

here's the mounted EMG81:

Now let's skip to rewire the whole thing. I decided to leave the stock V7 neck pu inside until i get an EMG89.

fortunately, ibanez uses stereo jacks so i don't need to replace it

wiring is pretty simple since i'm not using the PU switch, and only have one vol knob:

here's everything back in place plus the battery. I put a small piece of foam on top of it before mounting the back-plate so that the battery stays in it's place without wobbling around.

Finished!

i thought emg's were standard on that model, cuz i mean, hell, mick actually uses emgs
i hate it when ibanez are cheap asses, they go to the trouble of making a "signature" model, but dont follow through with it.

Reguardless, that looks good man, love them emg's

The MTM1 actually comes with Blackouts now. If you find one with EMG's demand a discount since its technically an older model :p

It sounds fairly bright and more focused on higher mids than the 707 in my C7 hellraiser. In direct comparison to my other 6 (rg3120 with a JB in the bridge), it's less bassy and you'll immediately notice the compression EMGs are known for. I like the feeling and sound of passives and actives for different things, and this guitar sounds exactly liked i expected an EMG81 in mahogany to sound like.

also, i'm mainly playing this guitar in D standard (which is what why bands tunes to) but it sounds especially nice on drop-C tuning. The moderate lows and rich high mids on the EMG81 works like a dream for keeping things nicely articulate and defined at lower tunings. I also experimented at tuning to open C, which is A LOT of fun to play. I should definitely leave one of my guitars tuned like that
