Wiring a cab to be able operate stereo and mono

Im probably going to be ordering an Avatar cab and they only let you choose either stereo or mono but I would like to be able to do both so how hard would it be to wire the cab so it was say 8 ohms mono and 4 ohms stereo?

It would'nt be too hard to actually perform the modification, the hardest part would be working out a diagram.

To switch between stereo and mono on a cab (at least, thats what I think you're trying to acheive) you would need a switch, with quite a complex wiring diagram. I would not be 100% sure on how to wire it, but I'm sure I could draw something up.

I'll work on it. If I forget about this thread, shoot me a PM to remind me!

Thanks that would be awesome. I've been searching google for info and I've found some helpful stuff but not quite what I'm looking for. It seems like what I want to do is have a series-parallel wiring with either a switch or isn't there some kind of special jack that has a built in swith or something so that when you plug in to the mono jack or the two stereo jacks it switches accordingly? Someone help me out here I only vaguely know what I'm talking about.

No problem at all.

I underlined a piece of your post....
I'm sure there is a system like that, but I'll eat a slice of humble pie and say that I would honestly not know how to go about that. If you want me to put together a schematic though, let me know. I could do it in a few days when I finish exams.

ElectricAmp cabs are wired to go in mono, and soon as you hook a second cable in it goes stereo. Its a special jack. dunno much of it though

Here, I found a schematic that looks like it's what I'm after.

Except I would need 8 ohm speakers since my poweramp only has 8 and 4 ohm outputs. The wiring looks simple enough and I think I found a website that I can get those jacks from.

Something seems wierd about that. the switching cabs ive seen have had 2 jacks, not 3...

That schem is fine actually. It checks out.

Ibnzorange, the schem above is just another way of wiring a normal 2-jack one.
