Please help me help a friend

My best friend is looking for some good pickups for his Les Paul studio (Epi). He wants to go the passive route as well as Seymour Duncan. He loves the combo I have in my main player (a basswood BCR Bich) which has a 59 in the neck and a Distortion in the bridge.
I thought it'd be a good idea but then again the Distortion sounds great in my thick basswood guitar but what about a mohogany? I don't know. He was also thinking of a JB. Same p-up basically so I'm told minus the magnet type (an alnico V). It has almost the same output as the Distortion and it is warmer, correct?
So please help me help a friend.
Passive Seymour Duncan pickups.
Les Paul, all mohogany.
Lamb of God like style.

Eat beef jerky and save the chidren!

the 59/JB combination is a "standard". And with that I say that they are for a reason

Eh! SD Custom is the best for a mahogany Les Paul. Although... the JB 6'er does sound GRRRREAT in a LP.

The LoG guys use 59's, unless I'm mistaken.

the best?

i know tone is subjective...

i STRONGLY (and respectfully) disagree with that. i've tried out the SD Custom, Custom Custom and Custom 5 in my Gibson LP Custom and all of them came up short to me. my experience with those pickups in an LP really made me not even consider them for anything else.

the SD Pearly Gates or Gibson 498T/ 490R are the way to go with an LP IMO.

Well he'll have a lot of cash soon. He's givin it up. He has the skill to be a professional but I guess something happened to him and now he's decided to just give guitar, his job, maybe even his girlfriend and join the military because it would give him something to do. I'm quite bummed.

No disrespect to him though its good to see that some guys wanna do something good for their country, I'm not even from america and I think its really great ppl still wanna do sumthing more. tell him to get the loudest guitar he can and go out with a bang! Rock on!
