I also have the SD Custom in my S... It won't get easily in.
I don't know if the pickup cavities are the same depth in S7320 and S7420, but i had to :

- cut the pole pieces (wich are like, 3 times too long)
- route the cavities a bit so that the pickup would not touch the strings.

I like it a lot, but the SD Custom is one hot pickup with a lot of bite and i really don't like the fact that i can't play with its level (direct mount, no pickup rings). I would bring it down a bit, since it's too close to the strings to me (and i don't want to get into neck shimming, etc.). These days, it's really a non-playing-that-guitar issue for me (especially since i have another problem with it : the high E keeps snapping... ).

Become one of us or die, fuckers. / Rick - RHLC V-P.

youll have to deepen the route a lil bit and nip the poles to get it in, but its worth it

Playstoparsimons, I thought we resolved your height issue

Yes, the problem is solved, but i still need to do it (basicelly, that means get someone to do it since i'm a lazy bastard, can't use my 2 hands beside playing guitar and i'm afraid of screwing things up on the guitar). And you know what? I've checked my other Duncan size and i'm not sure this will even work... I'd need to route deeper me thinks, but that S is thin man. Even with pickup rings, wich would be the easiest way.

Just cut down the legs on the baseplate, and fold them out you CAN make the plate shorter you knowz

I don't understand what you mean. What's the "legs" to you?
And how making the plate shorter is going to help me bring the pickup down?

(sorry, i'm kind of lost with all those english terms, maybe you could point me out to a drawing? ). The "solutions" i remember from my "Adjusting height on a direct mounted pickup" thread are to put brass inserts or shim the neck.

simply gives you more room to lower it
cut off the red part, bend it outwards and put new holes
It is (or at least was) fairly common practice with duncan long legged pups for a long time
