Just scored a set of these pickups - anyone know if they come with a wiring diagram or if anyone has one?

I will be installing them with a 5 way blade switch.

when looking for a wiring diagram, it matters way more what kind of 5-way switch you're using than what pickups. is it a strat 5-way, or the Ibanez special 5-way, or a schaller megaswitch, or something else? the wiring for each of those is completely different.

to figure out the wire color codes for your pickups, you can do several things: google for wire color codes for this manufacturer; if the pickups are used, see which wires the old owner soldered together as the series link and soldered to the bare ground; take a multimeter and measure the resistances across all the various colors, which will tell you which pairs of wires go to the same coils. you still may have some trial and error, but that will cut down the possibilities to only a couple and make it easy to figure out.

I found the wiring diagrams (thanks Billy) and still might need more help. I will be using an Ibanez 5 way switch commonly found in Ibanez RG7s.

Here are some pics and things that are said about wiring these pickups.

A: STANDARD HUMBUCKING WIRING
GREEN = HOT (usually to your Selector Switch or to the "hot spot" of your Volume Pot)
BLACK & BARE = GROUND (Ground to the bottom of the Vol or Tone Pot)
RED & WHITE = Twist/Solder together and tape off

B: PARALLEL HUMBUCKING WIRING
GREEN & WHITE = HOT (usually to your Selector Switch or to the "hot spot" of your Volume Pot)
BLACK & RED = GROUND w/ BARE Wire (Ground to the bottom of the Vol or Tone Pot)

C: COIL TAP for HUMBUCKER (using a standard DPDT Mini Switch or Push/Pull Pot)[/b]

right. so at this point, you need to translate your wire colors into the same wire colors as on some diagram that uses that Ibanez special 5-way switch. i recommend the RG7620 wiring diagram because it shows 4-conductor DiMarzios.

the next step will be translating your wire colors into the DiMarzio wire colors on that diagram. the bridge pickup will be easy because it's wired with hot, ground, and series link [labeled "soldered together" in your diagram] just like in your diagram. the neck pickup will be harder, because it's wired in both series and parallel.

i'll try to take a look at this tonight and come up with an answer. alternatively, you could do trial and error--for the neck pickup, one of those series link wires goes in one place on the switch and the other goes in another, so there's only two possible choices of wire color.


also, in this two-humbucker scheme, the magnet polarities will be an issue. can you hold the pickups up to each other and tell me, do the two screw-pole coils attract each other [good] or repell each other [not so good]?

diagram looks very similar to the DiMarzio, though if i remember right,the dimarzio had a green ground and a black signal as opposed to this one. looks easy enough.

So just swap the green for black and have the green become the hot right? everything else iss the same as dimarzio?

So, by that, DiMarzio Red = Hex Green
White = White
DiMarzio Black = Hex Red
DiMarzio Green = Hex Black.
