Pickup wiring -- is there something special I should know?

Hey, all. Just got my custom-wound Air Norton 7 that came in Ryan Shuck's custom Yamaha model, and I plan on throwing it into the neck of my 7621 swirl. The only problem is, I've never installed a pickup before, and there's a few abnormalities about my guitar.

First, there is no tone pot, instead there's a kill switch. Is there anything special that has to be done in the wiring when taking this into consideration? Simply put, it's going in the neck of a guitar with a kill switch for a tone knob and a 5 way selector.

Would DiMarzio's regular 4 conductor guide work? Or the Two humbucker 5 pole switch guide?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but since your neck pickup is a "New 7" shouldn't the color code match your Air Norton. If so you should just have to wire it the same way.

That's right, the colours are the same. Just photograph (or note it down) then rip it out and AN the fuck out of your 7621!

yes, but only if you install the AN7 in the same orientation as the New 7, with the wire coming out underneath the coil closest to the bridge--the coil with the screw polepieces closest to the bridge, not to the neck.

if you do that with an AN in the neck position, the pickup will work fine, but it will look backwards with that screw-pole coil closest to the bridge. if you would rather have it look normal with the screw poles closest to the neck, to get the right hum-canceling you will have to change the wiring, and pop out the pickup magnet and flip it. if you're up for that, search old posts where i've talked about how to do it, or repost here.

yeah scott nailed it. if you replace the bridge pickup with another dimarzio however, the polarities are designed to flip the neck pup so you dont have to magnet swap
