I love the basic tone of the 707s in my hellraiser but i don't really like how compressed and lifeless they respond when trying to play with dynamics.
The 18V mod should give more dynamics and a more open sound, right? Any other advantages(change in tone, output, frequency response) that come along with the 18V mod? And do you think going 18V should help me with my problem or could it be that i should be looking at some other pups? |

Most people that have tried this mod say that it helps out EMG pickups greatly, if I were you I'd try that before looking into other pickups.

try the 18 volt mod first..
If you like it , sweet.... If not.. the SD blackouts are always there to replace the 707,s.. I put blackouts in my Loomis, and it made a good sounding guitar into a freaking awesome sounding guitar.. ![]()

I did the 18V mod on my 707s and found a small bit of difference.

I can't vouche for 707s but on the 81, 85 and 60 it increased the headroom a noticeable amount so they were cleaner and less compressed. they still sound like EMGs but they respond a bit more naturally, which is cool.

I believe the 81-7s take more to the 18V mod than the 707s. Both will change but there will be a larger difference in the 81-7s.

I'm swapping mine for SD Blackouts, but I was running the 18V mod on the 707's and it did make a positive difference.
