Choosing pickups
I've decided that new pickups are in order for the 7321.
My first thought was blackouts, because for the most part, I like the idea of actives. But that doesn't mean I'm ruling out passives. My first priority is, of course, face-melting metal. ![]() Although I can live with a pickup that just does metal well, I would like a versatile pickup. When dialing back the gain I'd like to have a nice, bright AC/DC/Black Sabbath like tone. (I know, basswood isn't mahogany, but I think there's room for improvement). A super-bright pickup won't be a problem for the metal side of things as I've had some success eq'ing another very bright guitar for metal. Finally, although coil-split clean tones are not required, they are nice. (For some reason, I like the coil-split stock bridge pickup, weird, huh?) So what sounds good? And can anyone provide clips of a basswood guitar with a given pickup? And where is the cheapest price? ![]() |

Guy, Ive been doing a bit of a research myself on the pickups because initially I was leaning towards buying a 7321 myself but now I am more interested in picking up a Schecter hellraiser c-7. However, I am still contemplating right now.
If I were to pick that 7321 up, I would definetely go with x2n 7 on the bridge and either a d activator 7 or blaze 7 on the neck. Thats just cause I want to play a lot of downtuned death metal. However, from what Ive been reading a lot of the passive pickups go muddy. EMG's are great, I have them on my hellraiser c-1 and they are just fine. Some might argue they tend to sound flat but in my opinion, I love them. You could also look into Seymour Duncan Invaders if you wanna go passive. If active, I'd vote for 707's anyday. |

I'd say go with the passive sized blackouts. You can't coil tap them, but active clean tones are always superb!
