Tuning to Fifths and 1/4 Step down

I dont know anything about any tunings diffrent than a440.
I have heard about tuning to fifths, what does that mean?
and how do you tune a quarter step down? I keep my schecter in A standard
How do i do this with a regular tuner?

I Really Like Ibanez Seven String Guitars

Origanally posted by Variant - Pulled from the river Styx, the mighty black oar of doom in hand! I certainly would not call this particular guitar an "axe" more like a club. Whereas Noodles' KxK would run through an emo, spilling his insides for a quick death, this blunt mace would bludgeon the unfortunate effeminate soul, breaking bones, bruising muscle, and causing internal bleeding to lead only to a slow, painful death

for example, in drop d, the bottom 2 strings are a fifth apart. so tune your whole guitar that way.

Basically tune using the 7th fret opposed to the 5th fret as you normally would.

Quarter step down, i'm not sure, but i think it had something to do with changing your tuning note to 430hz or whatever. @_@

Quarter step down means 50 cents flat.

I play from time to time in 19-EDO or in quarter tones. It opens up some new possibilities.

Do you have a tuner that has a read out in cents?

In Hz, A down 1/4 step is 427.474 Hz. Anything between 425 and 430 Hz should sound close enough.

Tuning a six string in fifths is a great way to add a ton of range. If you stick to high E, the whole guitar low-to-high, would be: BbFCGDAE. The Bb is a half step below the standard B on a seven string guitar. You could tune this up aor down a half or whole step no problem. Tuning a seven string in fifths is pretty difficult to do without multiscale or special strings.
