X2N 7 pickups. Anybody know about these?

Looking for pickups for my Xiphos 7. Zimbloth was trying to steer me towards the evolution pickups. I want more output than the d-activator pickups.

However the X2n's have more output than the d-activators or the evolution pickups.

I'd go active, but I don't really want to hack pickup tabs and shit to get the blackouts to work.

Whadaya think?

GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT? Fitzgibbons 5000 ultra synapse accellerator which allows me to think faster than the masses and phase in and out of the matrix at will.

Well, from what i've heard, super hot output, almost to an uncontrollable level, but quite tight. Never actually experienced one first hand though but i'm pretty sure ZeroSignal bought one once?

Yep, It's made from bits of real Panther... so you know it's good.

Nope but I was seriously considering buying one for my RG7621 before I decided to sell it to try to fund an XPT707.

the X2N7 is a great pickup. it's definitely in active territory as far as output goes, but sounds better IMO (more organic and responsive). it's a VERY powerful pickup and can get uncontrollable IF you have it adjusted too close to the strings... keep it backed off close to a 1/2" and you'll have all the output, clarity and bite you could ever need. and contrary to popular belief, there are some nice clean tones to had with it in split mode, i even like the clean sound in series.

the only con of the X2N7 to me is that it's a bitch to find a neck pickup to keep up with its ridiculous output. i would keep the stock DA7 neck pickup in the Xiphos because i feel it's really the best match for the X2N7. the Blaze neck is a fairly hot neck pickup in it's own right too, but still suffers from a severe volume drop when you switch to it from the X2N7 in the bridge.

Esp Griffyn has a spectacular aura about
I have one in the bridge my K-7 and its a great pickup. Like has already been said, its up there with actives in terms of output, but it has richer and crisper harmonics. It's a really tight pickup, perhaps even tighter sounding then the EMG 707s in my Hellraiser, and maybes even tighter than the 808s in my RG2228.

When I first put it in it sounded pretty shite, but then I realised the mighty power of this pickup meant it had to be dropped away from the strings a little more than I was used to setting my pickups. Lowered it a bit and it tightened up and now it sounds absolutely immense. When I have the pickup selector in the middle (using both coils of my X2N7 and my PAF7 in the neck) I get some awesome clean tones too.

Thanks, I don't really us the neck pickup at all. I was going to go with blackouts but I can save a little money as they are sold in sets for close to 200 and with going passive (x2n) I can save $120.00 or so, and spend that frivilously on other stuff I don't need.

If your looking for a good neck pickup to compliment the X2N7, you should try out the Blaze Bridge. I have the Blaze Bridge in the neck of my Agile, which has a X2N7 in the bridge, and there isn't a noticeable drop in volume when you switch between them. I also had the D-Activator 7 Neck in the neck position with the X2N7 for a long time, and it wasn't that much of a volume difference between it and the X2N7 as well. To be honest, I like the Blaze Bridge better than the D-Activator 7 Neck as a neck pickup to match up with the X2N7.

Another thumbs up for the x2n7 here, it is a hot pickup, but, as long as it's a bit further away from the string than normal, it is nice.

It is, just like it's 6string counterpart, just loads and loads of fun though!

i have a X2N7 in my s7420BP and it absolutely screams. i finally switched from the crappy stock PU's and it makes a huge difference. if your using it with a high gain amp (such as my 5150) then i would recommend a noise gate/supressor to help control the X2N7. but otherwise a great pickup

The Smart Gate will quiet anything down
