Pickup pole piece adjustment?

I'm curious...

I'd never bothered to adjust the pole pieces on my guitars before. I'd always just set the pickup height to be about 2mm from the low B/high E string when fretted at the 24th fret (2mm because I use 2mm picks which makes it easy to measure with).

But today I went and adjusted all the poles so that they basically match the radius of the neck, i.e. they're ALL now 2mm from the string they fall under when that string is fretted at the 24th fret, rather than just the outer poles.

I can't say I hear a difference, but I haven't played at volume yet.

Does anyone else bother? I figured if it was terribly relevant, guitars that came with adjustable poles from the factory would have them set to match the neck radius by default. But perhaps that's just asking a bit too much...

on the blaze bridge i had in my 727, i adjusted the pole pieces on the 4 lower strings (on both coils) a little higher than than the others and liked the results... gave the those strings a little more cut and presence while keeping the higher strings a little warmer and smoother.

i didn't get technical with exact measurements... just adjusted them until it sounded good . it is a subtle difference, but it is noticeable.

Yeah, I adjust all mine to match the radius... Didn't really hear a difference, but they're shitty IBZ pickups and I'm anal and feel better about it.

Are we talking about the screw in pole pieces? So can these be adjusted lower without damaging anything in the pickup? I need to lower mine in the neck pickup for clearance, can anyone tell me how adjusting these effects tone.

I have the same thing on the blaze bridge on my PWH, they are up about 1mm out of the pickup, it does make a difference. I actually only really like the blaze bridge with this done to it, otherwise, meh.

Spoke ato a friend of mine on saturday, and he said he'd done the same with an evo7 after taking my advice and doing it to his blaze, he liked the results on one, tried it on the other, and really liked the results with the evo7!

i actually remember you saying about doing that to the blaze, it prompted me to do it with the blaze i had in my UV and i loved the results, i did it with the EVO i swapped it for after a while and i love how it sounds
