DC727 day of general mucking about...

So, today was pretty busy:

- shimmed the OFR7 that I installed yesterday. This was cake... just used the shim that came out of the LFR7 that was on there before. Radius issues now sorted.

- enlarged the route just forward of the trem very slightly to eliminate the rubbing issue.

- installed Blazes... this was NOT cake. Having done it once now, I can see how it wouldn't be as big a deal next time, and I don't want to make it sound difficult, but without the right tools I'd strongly suggest not bothering.

The Blaze's needed some SERIOUS dremeling, not just of the baseplate, but of the middle pickup ring to get them to fit. Perhaps Carvin have shrunk their route yet more lately... End result: lots of dust everywhere, but they're finally in. Only fucked up the paint job a little...

Wired it up using the original Carvin "scheme". It's a bit funky, but it lets me leave the leads really long, so whatever. It works.

Verdict: wow, the Carvin pickups blow. Tons. I could kill those bastards for not making the guitar with a standard route. You appreciate it more after you go through the hassle yourself...

Anyway, here's the pics bit:

guitar still looks amazing

FWIW, its worth modifying the pickup routes, so you can swap other pups in later without doing the work over again. plus pickups are easier to sell un fuxored

that's weird man, all the Dimarzios i've installed in my Carvin required zero modifcation to the guitar at all, just had to seriously dremel the baseplate of the pickup.

i already got to work with some routing though, for my incoming Bare Knuckles.

and i'm glad you now see how much Carvin pickups blow

everything's looking good on that guitar too btw

I'd like to see pics of the trem out of the guitar so you can see by how much the studs had to be moved.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, you only routed more out of the body, and modified the pickups that you installed, but did not have to mod the studs, or the Floyd itself?

Bingo. I shaved the route ahead of the floyd (and shimmed the low E/A/D with the LFR shim) and had to hack the hell out of the Dimarzios to shrink fit them. No other modifications to the guitar itself.
