Every 707 equipped guitar myself or my bandmate has owned squealed like a pig - even with 18v. We tried everything to fix it, nothing would. I'm talking about through tube amps at loud volumes of course. Noisegates help somewhat, but there's still squealing if you try to do stacatto stuff. Ultimately the only thing that fixed the problem was switching to Blackouts. 81's do it too. I haven't played 85's in a very long time however so I don't recall if they did it too. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you could try super-dampening the pickups with foam pads. i´m guessing that´s what they use for height adjustment, right? just add some thinner foam pads to the pickup cavity, like around the sides and stuff, and see if it helps. if not, then see if lowering the gain does anything. if that´s not it either, then i´m guessing the 707 has a frequency peak that gives it it´s voice, and this peak is what is causing you problems. it could be fixed with a good EQ, but then you´d kill the character of the pickup... so i´m pretty much guessing it´s because the pickup is very hot and trebly. try lowering gain, if not, blackouts! :P -------------------------------------- Æn Æppl Æ Dæi, Kiips De Dåktor Awæi |

Lowering the gain isn't much of an option. I use the Line 6 Big Bottom model on my head. Knobs on Line 6 amps don't always respond traditional, and the gain knob changes some of the tonal characteristics outside of the bass. I rather keep my settings since it works for all my other guitars and sounds fantastic with the Loomis. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That strange that this is happening to you guys, but I hear no issues with any other pros doing it. Sounds like you guys aren't grounding the pickups them selves (they ground under the pickup in the pickup cavity). I had a set of 89s in a kramer explorer and they were dead quite, minus the humming. |

![]() ![]() | Its sounds like its problem with 707's. Again, none of my other EMG guitars do this. I gave it a good test last night to narrow it down. The neck p'up does this as well. I turned the gain down, still did it, I turned the volume down a bit and it still did it but least. I moved the p'ups up and down and the lower the better, but nothing will completely remove it. The further away from my amp, the better too. |

![]() | When I had my 707's installed (years ago) I had thesame problem. However, this disapeared after I switched to another brand of strings (DR strings caused the squeeling). Never tought strings could do such a thing, but as soon as I changed them, the squeeling was over. I don't know if it was just an unlucky set of strings or something, but at least it worked for me. Also keep in mind, these pups are really high output, they might mislead u because they sound so clean, do not underestimate it's output. A proper grounding could also work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes you do. You just don't have to ground the bridge/strings. The pickups are grounded. If it's high end squeal it's likely microphonic, same as with any passive pickup. But you can't re-pot it because it's encased in epoxy. If they're both 707's and you need a fix now, try swapping the bridge and neck pickups. If you generally use the neck pickup with lower gain or for cleans, it may be more advantageous to put the offending pickup in there. Beyond today, I would contact EMG and see if they have anything to say about it. I have a couple Blackouts experiments that make all kinds of noises, including loud thumps if you tap on them. They're not wax potted, glued in place, epoxy potted, etc. They're just tack glued up into the covers. I imagine if it's a genuine microphonic pickup they might replace it. |

![]() | newamerikangospel where are you located in oklahoma i think i have seen the kramer your talking about. as for your 707s i have used emgs for 2 years and and have never had any problems with them. you should check and see if any of your wires are loose or try some copper foil shielding tape and put it in your cavity and under your pups that might help. also try putting a piece of foam behind the nut that should help a little. |
