I have my DS7 in the bridge of my RG8427F and it sounds just as tight as it did in my RG1527.
Try raising the pickup a bit. Maybe it's not installed correctly?

I have D-sonic in seven string here, mahogany guitar, and it has really defined, even, clear sound. It is strange that you have found it loose sounding, maybe there is a problem with pickup itself? Sound won't become more defined reversing bar towards neck, I don't think it would be solution in your case.

Definately not, i defy anyone to put the bar towards the neck... apart from petrucci.

dsonic with the bar to the neck is more of a chugga chugga chugga wheeeeeeeeee type pickup in my experience
it sounds like the pickup could be too far from the strings imo. clearly it could be something else, but thats my (and seemingly a few others) first guess

Hmm, when you say loose, I'm assumming you mean compared to the RG2228? Beacuse the D Sonic is one of the tightest passives out there, but basswood + 27 inch scale + EMG's is beyond tight, its downright surgical. I'd think Blackouts/EMGs are the only thing that would bring your K7 to that level of tightness, and it still probably wont be as tight as the RG2228.
FWIW, I prefer the DS7 in my basswood RG7 just a bit more than the DS7 in my mahogany/maple RGA7. It sounds a little tighter with a bit more grind in basswood it seems. |

Flipping the pickup defenitly did not sound any better. The soldering's all good and correct. I may try raising and lowering it to see.
But I'm thinking that (as EdgeCrusher mentioned) that comparing it to the RG2228 is a little out of its league. The specs are all different when compaing the two. I think I'll just try the pickup height route and see if that helps any. Thanks for all the feedback though! ![]() |

I'm so firmly in love with the DS7 I've just bought a second one for my other guitar.
I use 2 7620's for my 7's. One has an Evo7 in the bridge and the other has a DS7 in the bridge. Whilst I do like the Evo7, I simply prefer the DS7. It just has more meat to it. But I don't think the Evo7 has way more brightness to it; it may have a little, but I haven't paid enough attention to the difference. I say this because if the DS7 wasn't bright enough for you, you might not notice a massive difference Is the D-Activator something that'd do it for you?

It sounds like you need a Bare Knuckle..... the miracleman and painkiller are as tight as a gnats a-hole. The miracleman has more bass and slightly scooped hi-mids and is quite smooth sounding but its great for palm-muting and pinch harmonics (its my favourite pickup of all time) and the painkiller is more balanced and aggresive. Definately check them out before you do something silly like route your guitar for emg's. Their forums really helpful in sorting out the exact pickup your after.
