![]() | HELP!! Luthiers, Techs, Metalurgists Please!!!! I broke part of the base plate off one of my ibanez edge trems by the post. Can it be welded or epoxied back together? Will epoxy hold as long as it doesn't get banged around? TIA, Adam Hey! Lets go pry that gun from Charlton Heston's dead hands. It'll be like taking candy from a baby now! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | o.O I would imagine you want that welded, not epoxied. I could be wrong, but that would just be my preference. FWIW, i think the cost of that would outweigh just getting a replacement Reverse Headstocks or Bust Dude...i just got a spam email that was titled "Funky date rape trick" -Zepp88 I just got another funny email "Her pussy smiled at me" -Zepp88 Don't tell me you haven't heard of Raptor Jesus It's important that you know this information :headnod: It will decide your fate when we are pwned. -JoeOvChaosI was going KAT KAT KAT KAT and you were going KAT... chk... ![]() | So far it looks like I'm going to get it welded. The piece is only about 1/4 inch long. I don't know if my father-in-law can do work that small. Maybe I'll flood any gaps with epoxy too. This RG520 didn't have the block lock on. I went to unscrew the arm spring clip so I could put it into another guitar until I could stop at the local store and the whole unit and springs went flying out of the guitar. The base broke around the knife edge on the non arm side. It still works but I worry about stability and appearance. My wife bought this guitar and one of the EMG81's in it for me. I would buy a new unit or upgrade to a low pro/edge pro whichever one came next, but I just booked a mod appointment at Voodoo amps for my Laney AOR this afternoon. Please keep the suggestions coming. Adam |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think Ibanez trems are cast, if so good luck welding it. I'm not saying you can't weld cast metal but it's not easy. Few welders can weld cast, it will need to be TIG welded, the material to be welded will need to be preheated slowly in an oven over a long period, the weld needs to be very hot and it should be done with filler rod that is specifically designed for cast. After it is welded it should be thrown in the oven again and cooled down in stages to achieve maximum strength. I have cheated in the past and welded cast for ornamental purposes with a very hot MIG and without the complicated preheating and staged cooling but I could not guarantee the strength or durability of the final product. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I haven't used it on something like that but I have used it successfully on corroded water passages on a intake manifold. It's definitely cheap enough to try. |

![]() | JB Weld? 2 part putty epoxy like the POR15 stuff? I've made engine and suspension mounts out of that stuff, but it always seems to come off the surface you stick it onto. It holds stuff inside it very well though. Adam |
