Second thoughts about blackouts...

I've been playing my S7 a lot lately and am having second thoughts about putting blackouts in it, as I don't think it looks so hot.

What I'm thinking is putting them in the RG7 (which will look hot) and getting a matched set of Dimarzios, as I love the look of them with black polepieces.

So what sets yould you suggest? I really fancy trying an Air Norton 7 in the neck, but the bridge has me stumped. Only two provisos - no X2N7s or Drop Sonic 7s.

Both guitars are used for an odd mix between Poison The Well/Killswitch Engage melodic metal and The Faceless/Necrophagist Über tech metal. I'm really looking for something articulate but gainy - lots of harmonics (pinch harmonics FTMFW!) but not low output like the PAF7s - I couldn't stand their low gain crisp crunch, and they sounded shit in my mahogany K7, so...

Ideas?

and haggis to all!

Dont want any haggis but try the evo7 in the bridge. Too bad about those blackouts - i think they look smoking in that S7!

Lol, i dont think you can get an an7 with black poles dude. at least not the slugs anyways.
I too would suggest the Evo7 if you feel the want for a hot dimarzio bridge

Reverse Headstocks or Bust

I'd hit the Evo, but im not sure about it in the S7. It might add warmth to the aggression it has. If you order from banjomike he can get it with black poles too.. I'm just not sure if he'll ship intl.

what about a JB 7?

i've had a hard time with dimarzios in my (mahagony) rg3120. Diamrzio's seem to like basswood or more scooped sounding woods better

Well, here's the important thing- Hows the S sound with blackouts?

If not BKPs, I definitely recommend the DiMarzio Evo7 as well in the bridge, with a D Activator Neck or Blaze Neck so it'll match aesthetically.

I don't recommend the JB7 in an S7420.

The JB7 owns in mahogany, but it has this sort of raw snarl to it that I doubt you'll like, based on your description. It makes me think of a chainsaw, for some reason.

The Evo7 would be a good match (and it also kicks ass in mahogany), but a Blaze bridge might work too. I can't really say how it stacks up against the Evo in basswood, but the thing literally is swimmig in semiharmonics - you look at it funny and your lead lines get all these added overtones. I fuckin' love it.
