I think a good tip is to get something that DOESN'T have high output.

The cleanest, clearest pickup I ever had was the PAF style pickup that was in my Gibson SG. Wonderful pickup.

In any language that you learn to speak -- love is twisted and defined as weak

TheMissing's GAScon status: GAScon 4... I'm doing pretty good at the moment.

Dimarzio PAF Pro in the Bridge
Humbucker from Hell in the neck
HS3 in the middle, if a middle pickup is used.

Articulate, clean, balanced, great setup.

NDG is a jewel in the rough
TV Jones pickups might be something worth considering.

I've actually considered these for a specific build.

I love the clean tones of those big Gretch Brian Setzer models, and some of The Ventures' sounds. This would make for a fine sounding studio guitar.

i've never played anything that comes close to this...especially through the right amp. it might not work all that well with your rig for heavy tones, but it's definitely worth a mention:
