It could be cool if he could replicate a Gibson or PRS pickup for a 7-string, as I prefer some of those to old JBs.

If you think about it, the bobbins and magnet are just along for the wind. However, if the parts on those are as cheap as I think they are, he'll probably not want to work with them. He's complained to me about Dimarzios crumbling in his hands when he takes them apart, and I'm afraid the DDs might be the same. You never know, though.

True. Maybe we could snag some fucked pickups in one of those bulk pups for 10 dollar things that pop up on ebay

Or, the humbucker parts kit at stewmac is like 20 bucks

That would be cool, I think it would be funny for everyone to get JBs though, I'm interested in some other cool sounds he can do. Like I said before, perhaps more Gibsony.

i'm not going to mess with my custom DiMarzios in the LACS or the Duncan Custom A5 in my homemade mahogany S7 [except maybe to change it to A8!]. i wish i could try the JB in my alder S7, but that was my prototype body where i didn't rout the mounting-tab areas of the humbucker route deep enough for Duncans. i also hate un-soldering my fancy complicated wiring schemes. i'll get it in some guitar sooner or later, although that might take me nine months....
