A new and different Blackout question!
i was wondering. When EMG made the 707, they made it around the EQ of basswood for its great sound. And i know how most of Seymour Duncans pups are created with Mahogany's EQ in mind, so heres my question.
Were the Duncan Blackouts eq'd around Basswood's tone or Mahogany's Tone? Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL |

Neither. They were designed after the EMG85 and given a little more attack to help with low B clarity. It was not a ground-up thing in regards to the voicing.
I can tell you from a lot of Blackout experience that the Blackout bridge model definitely sounds best in mahogany. I find the neck model in the bridge sounds best in basswood, but the bridge model works too. It depends on your rig as always. |

well i can definitely get GREAT tone out of my lil ghetto combo setup (with an extra slaved 12" celestion) so i know my amp has the ability to create the tones i love, my only question is like, for my 8527 (mahogany body, maple top) , the 707 is an overload in it, and the 81-7 is a lot more clear and articulate than the 817 in the bridge, but it doesnt have the low end i want either.
so what i wanted to try was the Bridge model BO, but didnt want it to be as weak as the 817 or as powerful as the 707. Im a MASSIVE fan of the Basswood 707 wood/pup combo tonewise, but am still left wanting with my Mahog/Maple 7..... any ideas Nick? |

my guess is that they would prolly sound as good as the 707s just without all the hi-mid hiss associated with EMGs and High gain.....
i dont know....i think im gonna buy just the bridge model soon and try it out. If i dont like it, i can always return it or sell it on here, seeing as how all id have to do is drop it in and attach the quick connect cable already there... |

lol, i think thats what attracts me so much about them (the EMG sized extended housings).....they add a nice weight to the guitar, are tonally sound and just look professional as hell
