PAF Joe/ FRED - 7 string equivalents?

So I'd like to turn my DC727 into a 7 string JS... if you were going to substitute the PAF Joe/Fred that come in the JS with 7-string near-equivalents, what would they be?

Probably the Blaze Neck, actually, especially if you swap an a5 into it.

Fred is my favourite neck pickup ever

in my experience, the Blaze neck, while not really an equivalent, comes the closest to the PAF Joe/ PAF Pro. as far as the FRED, there isn't a single Dimarzio 7 string pickup that comes close to it

the FRED is an awesome pickup too, i'd love to see a 7 string version myself, but i'm sure Dimarzio would botch it up by throwing a ceramic magnet in it

Well dont you know, alnico magnets ever work in 7 string pickups, ever.

The Blaze neck in the bridge sounds alright, especially for chording and cleans. It does not have nearly enough bite or attack for most metal styles however though. I understand why bands like Orgy and Korn used them in the bridge, powerchords sound really cool with 'em.

IMO no DiMarzio 7-string pickup comes close to either the Paf Pro or Fred. You could try the alnico 5 thing, but you'd probably have to try something other than a DiMarzio to really get that kind of sound.

FWIW, i think you might want to look into having some pickup guru (maybe Wolfe, or Tim at BKP) wind their take on a pafpro/pafjoe/fred 7 string for you

I was hoping the PAF7 might be vaguely comparable, but doesn't sound like it.

Thats probably the least comparable lower output 7 string pickup dimarzio makes

Dimarzio made a Fred7 for the couple of JS7's and one of Dave Weiner's guitars, right?

No way to convince them to put that into production or make a custom order?
