Thanks. Wouldn't the output drop on any replacement if it drops when an EVO 7 is used? I guess the New 7 would be closer to a Blaze or X2N in terms of output?
I especially appreciate the replies that state what happened to the tone when the pickup was changed from the New 7 to something else. Those are most helpful. I'm playing metal so I know pretty much what my options are - Blaze, Blaze Custom, Tone Zone (I like the 6 string version of this in my EVH, though it seems not to be too popular), and X2N. I once put a Super Distortion in a BC Rich platinum Virgin 7 and the output dropped as did the balls. I definitely wouldn't want any drop in balls: All I have in this world, are my balls and my word, and I don't break 'em for nobody. |

Oh, no, I think what he meant was he liked the neck pickup, but whenever he switched from the bridge Evo to the neck the output drop was too much. The Evo's LOUD.
FWIW, I didn't notice much of a volume change when I pulled the New7's from my old 7620 and put in an AN/TZ7. Really, all of the Dimarzios will give you a good metal sound - even their powest output, the PAF, when coupled with a high gain preamp will give you an articulate rhythm crunch. Also, the TZ6 and TZ7 are VERY different sounding pickups. :/
