![]() | Personally the older valvestates are some of the few marshalls I like, so props on that. So far every thing that has been mentioned thus far, the BKP Painkiller, and potentially the Drop Sonic blade toward the bridge. Good luck, finding the right pickups can be a pain in the rear! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i gotta admit, the d-sonic totally sounded like an emg to me, it was unbelievebly close, but ofcourse a bit more organic. but it was a hell of a pup too |

![]() | I dunno about the Evo anymore personally. I liked how it sounded playing at home. When I got to band practice and tried it at my rehearsal space with the band. Ouch......... To much bitting mids and highs. Yeah its clear and all but it is extreemly hot and does not take to boosts well. I am playing through a Framus Cobra........... The Evo has no warmth. It sounds real thin to me. Single notes have no wieght. I like to have a ballsy tone and tight low end but I don't think the Evo goes well with a clear High gain amp. |

![]() | Yeah I wouldnt call the Cobra warm. The evo doesnt get along with that amp. I also own a Splawn Nitro though and I'm not crazy about how the evo sounds through that either. I think I'm just tired of Hot ceramic pickups. You don't need all that drive in a pickup if you have an amp with alot of gain and poweramp girth. Alnico may be the way for me, there's only one way to find out.......... I see a Nailbomb in my future |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just dont really care much for ceramics in general ![]() just cause a pickup is alnico btw, doesnt mean its low output. an alnico nailbomb still pushes a LOT of juice |

![]() | Thats cool then, Im not sure if I want low output and alnico. Probably something high output but not overly hot with an alnico mag would work for me. The evo is like 440? I don't think I want anything that hot. I wonder what the Nailbomb is. |

![]() | +1 quite agree. I find the EMG-707 has a bit more headroom and compression hence better apparent harmonic content and perhaps less organic tone due to being more compressed. D-Sonic is a great pup anyhow, at least worth giving it a try. |
