Yup, the "Whale-tail" aren't patented anymore. That's why the Edge Pro II was ditched in favor of the Edge III. Not that either trem is a contender for greatness, just another way to cut costs on the lower lines.

Gotoh's trem used cast saddles back in the 80's. After the patent ran out I think they've switched to all steel. The saddles sure look different than they used to. It says a lot IMO that Suhr has switched from using OFRs to Gotoh because Floyd QC is sub par lately. The last Floyd I owned was a Pro about 5-6 years ago, and I had to get a replacement because the one I got the first time had a huge dent on the baseplate from someone dropping the box before shipping.

Who cares, the 2 biggest whammy abusers on earth use Edge trems.

FWIW the Pro trems were never near the quality of the OFR. They used a lot of inferior parts, just like the licensed trems. The OFR and Speedloader are the only trems they make that are worth talking about.

When I finally got the working one it was a nice trem, the baseplate was the same quality as an OFR. The issues I had with it were the string spread(quite narrow) and the depth of rout it required(stupidly deep).

Damn it, I've owned too many double locking trems.

Now, if your dollar didn't suck then a)you could afford it and b) you might be closer to #8 on the World's Most Stable Economies list.

You know what? I'm thinking of the Floyd Rose II. They were the shitty ones. The string spacing on the LoPro was aimed at the Strat crowd, since a real Floyd pushes the strings out the edge of the fretboard.
