RG 7620 bridge/neck replacement Smits Wolfetone?

Hi,

This is probably the most common pickup thread on this site. However, I do not want to go with a Dimarzio or a Duncan. The factory Blaze just sounds blah to me. I'd like to go with something emphasizing mids and lows, without the ice-pick through the ear highs.

Has anyone tried out the Smits 7 string pickups? Does Wolfetone make a 7? I think Bareknuckles are out of the price range, so what's about $100 but not a Dimarzio or Duncan?

Wolfe will do 7 string rewinds, including making it one of his models, I think, if you send him a Duncan (he hates using DiMarzio's parts). Noodles and I both use JB7s that Wolfe rewound, and I really wouldn't trade it for anything - it's got all the good parts of the 6 string JB with none of the bad parts...

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

FWIW, the rg7620 does NOT have blazes stock, its a common misconception, theyre actually new7's.

My bad. I think what I've got confused is the model # of the Ibanez (I'm really not an Ibanez guy but for a 7 what can you do?). The pickups are Dimarzio's for sure though - and I never heard of one of their pickups called new7s.

Anyhoo, no Smits anyone?

Its not your fault, original documentation called them Blazes too. They changed during production into USA-made Dimarzio pickups exclusively or the RG7620/7621. You may also know them as Custom 7's, but that later changed to New 7's to prevent confusion...got all that?

Ok, thanks. So what would a regular old Blaze sound like in there?

This post completely underestimates the magic touch that Wolfe has with a pickup winder. I felt like I finally heard what my guitar sounded like when I installed that rewound JB7. Just larger than life, in your face, pop out of your speakers and strangle you tone (The Lungren M7, while of a completely different character, also had this same aspect.). Plus, since it was a significantly lower output, you could just crank that bitch right up to the strings, and get this wonderful, highly sensitive growl to your sound. I really need to go get about three or four more pickups to send him.
