Fretboard dying question

so i'm just about done fixing up an old guitar. i just put on the 2nd coat of tung oil and once the neck is ready i want to dye the fretboard with this stuff i bought from stew mac Black Fingerboard Stain at Stewart-MacDonald

my question is, do i need to clean/do anything to the fretboard BEFORE i use this dye? i already polished the frets with some fine steel wool and they look awesome. the fretboard is definitely on the dirty side and i'm assuming i should clean it first before dying but i just didn't know what to use in case there would be issues between the cleaner and the dye chemicals.

oh and pics to come soon

Goto the tech section. There's at least 2 threads about how to go about doing this. One by myself, and another by someone else.
