Will I like the AirNorton more than Paf 7 in the neck
This is in the neck position of a basswood 7. I like the paf 7 thats in there now somewhat. I do like that it sounds wharm and has character. It doesn't sound that fluid or "singing" to me though. I think I want somthing with more sustain in the neck but still warm. Not overly warm where the bass is blurry but a nice solo tone. I have a Evolution in the bridge which I like so far. So I want something to compliment that with more tone options.
Would the AirNorton be better for me? |

I use an Evolution in the Bridge and an Air Norton S in the neck.
I've used the PAF7 before for both the Bridge and Neck on previous guitars, and it is in my opinion a very versatile pickup for both positions. I do, however, prefer the additional treble & individual note clarity of the Air Norton. It has some single coil characteristics that are very nice, and it cleans up well.

How would you compare the paf7 in the bridge you had to the Evo7 in the bridge you have now? |

Well, as the title states, very PAF-ish, good for old school crunch, but not as cutting as the EVO, mostly in part due to the fact that the EVO is a bit flatter sounding, where-as the PAF has a considerable rollof on the highs. Additionally, the EVO has considerably more output, which is going to lend itself towards hi-gain usage. It really depends on your other gear and how you'll be using it within your playing application. I think the PAF7 has great note clarity in the bridge position, but sounds more vintage buttery in the neck. Some people prefer that, & I don't mind it either, so long as it is paired up with an amp that is not lacking in available highs. I've played through Dual Recto's with both & they both work well with that amp, but my taste these days is more toward the combo I'm currently using. This is all using a Basswood body too. I'm sure the PAF7 absolutely screams in a mahogony body considering the low-mid freqencies that are more prevalant in Mahogony than Basswood. I also used the PAF7 in the bridge my Alder bodied H207, & still ended up moving it to the neck & getting a Blaze Bridge before I sold it. I'm very content right now with the EVO Bridge/AN neck combo. |

Hmmm, interesting! I'm saving up to replace the stocks in my M-207 - you like the Evo bridge over the Blaze, in basswood? I've narrowed it down to those two, I think.

We did get a little off topic but is the lowend on the paf7 in the bridge tight like the evo?
I still wanna hear from others about the Airnorton in the neck compared to a paf7 neck. Will i get that liquidy sustain sound and a little less vintage. |
