When people talk about tweaking their EQ for sets of pickups, they're talking about in the preamp. It would stand to reason, when you say "if you have to use an EQ to sound good you should by another amp" you're talking about the EQ in the preamp section, because I don't know of any stand-alone poweramps with more than a presence and resonance control(both of which are part of a power section).

![]() | And I always spoke in terms of tweaking the preamp. So the confusion was clearly not mine. So I think we both agree that you should not have to tweak your rig to make your pups sound good. Start by using decent sounding pups. And I also think we both agree that you should not have to tweak your rig to make your power amp sound good. The power amp sound is what it is. The Marshall sound on a EL34 100/100 is particular to that, a Plexy 1959 power amp section also sounds very particular to it, so does a Mesa 20:20, and for the same matter a 2:90, different tubes, different circuit. And we could go on and on. So I either like it or look for something else. Now there is solid agreement I'm sure. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There's not very much agreement here, because I'm too busy trying to figure out how pickups have anything to do with the power section in the first place. ![]() |

![]() You have one of the worst grasps of the english language I think I've ever seen. You can't convey a single clear point. Stop waffling and using big words and say what you mean. You're saying good pups mean you shouldn't have to tweak your amp, yet you confess to adjusting the EQ on your amps... ![]()

Typically, power amps DON'T have EQ. In fact, barring a presence knob and the occasional deep switch (which is sort of presence for the low end - typically this would be done via the negative feedback circuit, too), I can't think of a single poweramp with any kind of adjustable toneshaping controls. When someone says "tweak their amp's EQ" they pretty much de facto talking about adjusting the preamp EQ. No one bothered to specify "preamp EQ" in this thread because, well, we all sort of assumed we'd all be on the same wavelength here, since to the best of my knowledge it's simply not possible to adjust a poweramp's EQ. They have no EQ circuitry, which makes adjusting it a bit tricky, you know? "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."

I never mean to sound rude in any way, nor I think I did, as I think some others were. But I think it is totally reasonable to stop argumenting at this point of the discussion having some points been distorted along the way (way forums are sometimes), and bring the thread back on topic.
