Pickup wiring question

I searched and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

After some forum members' advice I got an Evolution 7 pickup through a trade with a friend. It was brand new and the first pickup I'd installed myself.

Everything seems to be working well and sounding pretty good but I've got a couple questions.

In the wiring manual it gave instructions for parallel and series wiring, and based upon what the manual said I decided to go with the series wiring. The guitar is a Ibanez 7621 with 5 way-switching. Everything sounds fine except when I change to the fourth switch position (fourth from the bottom) and the fifth position (neck pickup).

UPDATE: figured out the parallel thing, rewired the guitar but still having a buzz problem with position 4 and now 2. The neck pickup-only position is also still pretty quiet.
On the fourth switch the sound is very loud and clear...actually louder than the first 3 switch positions, and has some noise.

The fifth position is the main concern, it's pretty quiet compared to the other positions, BUT this was also the case with the previous pickup setup that I had (duncan Invade in the bridge, and from what I could tell hooked up in parallel configuration).

Anyone have any idea if there's something that I can do to get the sounds on a more even volume? Or does anyone have any opinions on series vs. parallel?

Any help would appreciated.
