How to get the buzz out?
Ok Im talkin about the low b string here. I am currently using a 62 on the low B. I tune it to drop A and the rest of the guitar is in standard. Maybe the 62 isn't heavy enough becuase even on the 2077xl I just bought I am still gettin fret buzz on the low B string tuned to drop A. What guage would be good? 66? ......... What company sells individual guitar strings this size other than D'addario and where do you guys get them...... I heard DR makes a good string for drop tunings.

XL is 27 inches correct? If so it surely shouldnt have anything to do with tension. I use 9's and 58-60 area is near equal tension to the rest of the strings. I have that set on 25.5 and 26.5 guitars with sick low action and no problems. You may need to get your neck adjusted or simply you may need to raise the action because of string excursion. A tighter guage will eliminate string excursion somewhat but more then likely this is not your main problem.
Questions that may help to find the problem what is your action like what gauges are you using for your other strings does it only buzz on certain frets or everywhere As budda said a good setup by a tech couldnt hurt either if you hadnt had one recently
Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free-wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.

your string gauge shouldn't have anything to with buzzing. i tune to ADGCFAD with .10 .13 .17 .26 .36 .46 .56 and have no problems with fret buzz. if there's an issue with it, it's a problem with your setup or frets.

I have a J custom 7 and a 2077xl. On both guitars I have a standard 10 set with a 62 on the low B in drop A tuning. Both guitars have some buzz goin on the low A on certain frets. I have had the guitars setup buy a well known tech in the area that does good work. They have both been setup within the past couple days. I do like my action relativly low, not directly on the fretboard but low. Will going up in string gauage make any difference? Do new strings in general tend to buzz on the lows?
Would a different string brand other than D'addario make a difference? Where can I buy individual high guage strings? |

No dude the gauges you have should be plenty enough tension to get supremely low action without buzz even in A. Well........unless you have the pick attack of thor the thundergod or something lol
Only on certain frets hmm.... That leads me to think either your tech didnt do a good enout neck adjust. For example does the string buzz on the uppermost and lowermost frets or does it only buzz on the middle frets. or You need to get your frets leveled. For example does it buzz on a few certain frets but not on others. While its true that more tension will cause less string excursion and possibly stop the buzzing. You could be hiding alot bigger problem that may only get worse. What is your action set at?? |
