Chris, you've never used Blackouts, and Nick, who has experience with both Blackouts and EMGs, is telling you exactly what the differences are based on his first hand experience. Why are you arguing with him?

As for the noise issue, noise doesn't just mean 60-cycle hum and incessant buzzing. EMGs are a little noisy. It's not all that bad through a decent rig, but it is there. Play with an EMG-equipped guitar for a while, then switch out the guitar for one with some good passives. You should be able to hear at least a little bit of a difference.

I prefer the thicker tone for everything. But then, I'm not an EMG lover, and usually use nothing but passive Dimarzios.

BTW, the 2 guitars were my C7 Blackjack, and my friend's MH400NT, both mahogany.

The Blackouts really sound good in my Loomis FR. I have some more tweaking to do to the height though. I don't think I could say which is better, it's mostly up to preference. I personally like the Blackouts better.

I still wish I could put BKP passives into the Loomis, but they don't make one that would fit.

I've thought about getting someone to machine me a cover and hardware that he could use to wind me some but that would be difficult.
