how much modification is necessary? my bridge pickup cavity was routed out (depth-wise) a bit for the Invader because it didn't fit that well. Would the same be required for the neck? Also, it did occur to me that the controls could be different as well. Is this right?

Oh yea if the Invader is already there then there's no problem. Sorry I forgot about that. The guitar I have Blackouts in had Invaders originally too, so it'll go in with no problems.

PS: For what it's worth I can get the pickups for you.

PS: The Invader isn't noisy at all, if you found yours was, it's likely not wired right or it's just your amp. The Invader is a great sounding pickup but not in basswood, it's better suited for brighter guitars (poplar, alder, maple, etc).

EDIT: Ah you use a 5150 II, that explains the noise issue. Hopefully you use a noisegate in front of the amp?
you may be on to something with the noise issue and my invader being installed wrong. even playing direct through a v-amp i get a ton of noise.
what about the wiring would cause noise?

Improper grounding, phase issues, poor connections, things of that nature.

is it possible that the either of those first two issues could be fixed by a re-wire?

Yeah definitely, give it a shot. Even if it did work however I don't think the Invader + a basswood Ibanez is a good match. Just my opinion though.

blackrobedone is a jewel in the rough
This might only be worth one cent, but the D-Activator was no good in my Petrucci. from my experience, a Super Distortion sucks anus in an RG 7 - I had it in there for about 5 minutes. Tone Zone has potential in a 7 (I just put one in an EVH with satisfactory results).
