![]() | UV/DC727 Pickup swap... suggestions? Here's my situation: I've got a UV (Blaze's) and a DC727 (stock pups). I want to replace pups in the Carvin. I've heard claim that the Blaze's actually work nicely in the DC727 (all mahogany/maple cap). My main complaint about the Blaze's in the UV is the scooped midrange sound. I really like a thick tone. Anyway, my options are either: - buy EVO's for the UV and transplant the Blaze's into the Carvin - put the EVO's in the Carvin and leave the Blazes in the UV - buy something else entirely for the Carvin and deal with the UV later Thoughts? |

Personally, I think maple capped Carvins scream for an Air Norton in the bridge and a PAF7 by the neck... Cheers Eske P.s.: If you are dead set on high output PUs, I'd spring for the D-Sonic/Air Norton combo "Do be do be do" - Frank Sinatra

the same passive pickups are used with the "active electronics" option. it's just an onboard preamp with a push/pull volume pot with active bass and treble controls. it's not the same as having active pickups ala EMG or Blackouts. i've had that option on 2 different Carvins. it's actually really nice for clean sounds, add a chorus pedal and some careful eqing with the carvin preamp and you can get some almost piezo like clean sounds.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | my DC727 is all mahog with a Maple cap and the Bareknuckle NailBomb/ColdSweat combo sounds great in mine. I had a Duncan Sh-5 custom in the Bridge before the Nailbomb and that was almost as good so that it a viable alternative. I see you've got a JSX, I'd try a Miracle Man. The Nailbomb sounds great thru the JSX but it sounds incredible thru the Rectoverb. the Miracle Man is a little scooped compared to the Nailbomb, but the Nailbomb is very organic sounding. It's a great pickup for playing lead. Depending on what styles you play either one will work great, I'm more of a lead player (wanker) than a rhythm player so the Nailbomb works great for me. Now if I just didn't suck so bad ![]() ![]() ![]() Can I be the devil on your shoulder? ![]() |
