More Pickup Mayhem. (56k, go bake a cake)

Hmmm. USPS has dropped a box off on my doorstep...

Now I've ordered a bunch of stuff lately, but the name on this seems familiar...

Anyway, I must open this box, and since it's possibly filled with metal, I need to use some metal:

Die, box, die!

Carnage ensues.

AH-HA That's what was in there:

Passive-sized Blackout 7's FTW!

Now, what to do with these? Guess I'll install them in here:

Which turns out to be no easy task. First I had issues with the pickup routs on the guitar. While they fit passive Duncans, and Dimarzios (with only a little chopping of the ears), the Blackouts don't fit. A battle was fought between myself and the guitar, using files.

I won:

Next the chrome pickup rings I got from fretsonthenet wouldn't fit over the pickups, the BO's are too long. So the file went to those(sorry no pics of this).

Lastly, the 5 way Schecter switch had to go, and I needed to re-wire the guitar:

Finally, I can has Blackouts:

I'm liking these a lot. The neck pickup is more in line tonally with my other guitars, being hotter and fatter than the Blaze Neck. The BO bridge is hotter and quieter than my DS7 while still clear and defined.

Well worth the money and work. Huge thanks to Nick(Zim) for hooking me up, as well.

Nice!! Glad you like them.

Strange observation, there's a reflection on the bottom of the guitar in the last picture that looks like the Dream Theater logo o_0

You shake your ass but you're already dead.

dude, you should take some measurements and get dave over at FoTN to make some fitted rings for those, with a tighter inside radius that follows the corners. he makes em for passive duncans, i bet you could get some made a bit bigger for the BO's. that would kick ass

How you liking the pups?

Thanks. I'm pretty sure that's my camera tripod in that picture. Freaky.

Yeah, I'll have to look into that, currently just glad I got the damn things in and installed. What a pain-in-the-ass!

The ysound great. I need to give them a few days for the new gear sound to wear off. I was never an EMG fan, prefer Dimarzios, but the 7 string pickups are never quite right to me. I never liked the 81, the 85 was decent, but I could get better sounding passives for a 6.

I think if I tried this...

Well, you'd see a couple of posts on the FS board.

Is it true that the BlackJack has limited upper fret access? How do you like this vs the 59/JB?

Um, yeah, I'm the one on the boards who pointed out the Blackjack vs Hellraiser upper access. I don't use the 23rd and 24ths frets enough to complain, really.

I don't remember the JB-7 and 59-7 enough to do a fair comparison. I didn't like them, and swapped them out almost within a month of owning the C7. These I'm currently liking the Blackouts better than the D-Sonic 7 and Blaze Neck that were in the guitar since Sept of 2006.
