Today I Routed my S7 for Blackouts...

...with a small whittling chisel. It took for fucking ever, but my guitar is unscathed and my blackouts fit now. The routes...god, they're so bad but since the dodginess of my work is concealed within the pickup cavities (beneath gigantic blackouts none the less) I decided it was better than the $300 AUS I was quoted to have sharper corners (i.e. a proper route job by someone other than myself). Install and set up coming soon.

Jetzt liegst du hier, ganz regungslos, in meiner hand und meinem schoß, du bist so kalt...

you don't need to route for blackouts if they're the normal sized ones... Did you get the EMG sized ones?

You did it then dude! Epic!

How close were you to coming through into the trem cavity?

I routed the bridge a good 3-4 mm deeper and you could probably go another mm or 2 mm without worrying too much but to be honest I personally wouldn't be really comfortable getting those last few mm. right now it's fine but any more would be pushing shit up the proverbial hill. There's plenty left but I wouldn't guess there was more than 5 mm, max. All that is the long way of responding "Not dangerously so," to probably the most important of your concerns.

And my camera is at the gf's house so no pics for now. I doubt I'll get it before the full install is complete, at which point there will be (as promised!) pics.

One quick quick question, right now the bottom and sides of the newly routed section is bare wood, is there anything in particular I should finish it with, or is it fine bare? The dude at the guitar shop said not to bother unless it's likely to get a severe wetting (which it isn't), but I remain dubious.

PS - Epic is more literal than you may think in this case, given my approach

Maybe shielding paint? Like they use in the cavity.

Hawksmoor is just really niceHawksmoor is just really nice
I received my S7420 back from the luthier yesterday evening... Immediately went to rehearsal and me me and my bandmates were absolutely blown away. These babies are brutal, yet still have georgeous cleans. My S now sounds 200% better than my EMG 707 equiped Jackson RR7R... Now I need to get an RG and do exactly the same thing... I'm hooked!!!

A more comprehensive and detailed review will come after my gig on saturday, then we'll see what the audience says.

Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.
