from SD's website :

"7. Install the new 25k pots and stereo jack, and connect them as shown, depending
on your control set up. If your guitar is already equipped with 25k pots,
and has active pickups with quick connector cables, then you can simply unplug
the original active pickup from the quick connector, and plug in your new
active Blackout using the quick connector plug that is located on the bottom of
each Blackout. In this case you would not use the standard output cable coming
from the bottom of the Blackout. Instead, you will simply wind it up and insulate
the end of the cable. It can sit in the pickup cavity beneath the pickup. If there is
no room for the unused cable in the pickup cavity, the cable may be cut shorter,
and then insulated."

GOOD REP FOR ALL: IT WORKED!

Snipping it off, worked.

Problems: I get a SHITLOAD of hum now. More than EMG's.

I'm gonna go to work and settle this later.

Are the ends of the wires insulated from each other?

I am not sure what that means. Do I have to put electrical tape around the ends of the wire?

I would tape it off just to be sure it's not touching anything. The Blackouts are quieter than the EMG's, so any increased noise has to be due to another issue.

Okay, I'll put electrical tape around the ends of the PUPs.

I am still getting huge amounts of hum. Why? Because I'm using an EMG single coil in the middle? WTF.

Or am I "insulating" this wrong?

Anybody!

Frank,

Long time EMG user here, but no mean to sound offensive at all. Just out of curiosity, I don't seem to find where on SD's web site there is technical evidence for that assertion about noise levels. EMG has clear tech specs on theirs on noise floor. It'd be good to have the opportunity to see clear public info on that same respect. More credibility that way. Unless I've missed where that may be on the web site.

electrical tape
cut the wires apart (theres smaller wires inside) and make sure none of them are touching eachother, and tape them all off so they cant touch anything.

Reverse Headstocks or Bust
