Need some opinions on a H/S/S setup
i'm upgrading my oldest and most beat up guitar with some new pickups. it has been just a lonesome humbucker for about 2 years and i figured now i'm going to change it all up.
I want to go with some high output passive pickups. so no EMG's or Blackouts, i've got enough of those in other guitars. I was thinking Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio because i don't want to drop a fortune on these pickups e.g Bare knuckle. so what do you guys think? I was thinking maybe a SD JB in the bridge and hot/cool rails in the neck? no clue about the middle pickup. or maybe a Dimarzio EVo/Evo2 in the bridge and then who knows for the middle or neck. I had an x2n before and i just didn't really dig it. i will mostly be using this for metal/shred kinda stuff and i have a pod xt for practicing and a Powerball/Recto for my main rig. thanks! |

EVO2 -> Air Norton S -> YJM.
The YJM is my absolute favorite neck pickup on a Strat. ![]() |

also, if i went this route, what kind of cool wiring could i do with these pickups? e.g splitting via mini-toggle switches? maybe use a 5 way selector or what?? |

I love the dimarzio blue velvet, it's awesomely vintage strat like and is without doubt my choice for a middle position single
![]() In fact, I wish they made a 7string version as I'd be all over it! It's got a load of vintage sparkle, is bell like and doesn't quack. It's awesome! |

yeah, the middle pickup is what's giving me the most difficult challenge because i haven't had a guitar before with a middle single coil so i don't know what i like in that position...but i know what i like in other positions (LOL GET IT??!1/!///??)

there will be quite a drop in volume from the YJM. it's a great pickup, don't get me wrong, but doesn't mix that well with higher output humbuckers. the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 has a similar flavor as the YJM, but is double the output and has a way more complex sound to it. easily the best neck single coil i've ever used. i have one in my Fender YJM strat paired with a Fast Track 2, which is in the same output area as an Evo 2 and works out fine. |
