7 string pickup most similar to PAF Pro?
this is MY ablsolute favorite neck pickup, and i am thinking the PAF 7 isnt going to cut it due to the mid scoop that DiMarzio shows on the tone chart. the Air Norton doesnt have the bite. I like the Jazz but only in Mahogany. however, i have never owned a Korina (Limba) guitar before. the characteristics seem to be between Mahogany and Alder by all the descriptions i have heard.
I'm putting and EVO 7 in the bridge, thus far. i really like both 6 string versions in a variety of woods. I've been peeking at BKPs a bit but i have no clue which i would want. maybe an Abraxas? been really thinking about just dropping the cash for Lundgrens. I know the bridge would rule, and i have heard the neck is amazing as well. companies really need to start doing a detailed measurements in h-mH, it would make it so much easier. |

if we're just talking Dimarzios here, the Blaze neck would be closest to the PAF Pro. i think it sounds pretty incredible in mahogany and koa.

will do. i should ask him about a bridge pup as well. I'm sure the sound quality would jump exponentially. Not to mention the fact that i am sure they would gladly wind to fit my desires more. i know Johan does that too. ill shoot them both an email.

Response #1:
"Hello Jason, Thankyou. Both Paf pro and the Mneck has ceramic magnets. Our winding is a lot more complex than the paf pro. i do think you will get even more harmonics and a more exiting sound out of the M neck compared to the fine Paf pro. best Regards Johan Lundgren" Sounds promising thus far. now for BKP... |

Lundgren is a wee bit off. The PAF Pro has an AlNiCo V magnet.

Blaze Neck, or a PAF7 with the ceramic magnet swapped for a big Alnico 8.

i've also run Alnico 5 magnets in both. they round the sound off and add a lot of mid-range character, but they do take away bite, in both pickups. i haven't yet tried the A8. but since the AN7 isn't giving you enough bite, i would think the PAF7 would be a long shot for you. i agree with the advice to try the Blaze neck; then maybe if that's too much, try a PAF7. _actual time_ : prog/math/metal/???? on myspace |
