Alnico 8?

I have heard people say here that alnico 8 is like a mix of ceramic and alnico 5 in terms of sound but I also remember hearing something about Tim from bareknuckle pickups saying it's dodgey and it doesn't agree with a lot of pickups. What kind of pickups does it apparently not agree with?

All I can say is it works great for the Dimarzio D Sonic 7.

SD also didn't think much of A8, but recently came up with a new bridge pickup using it and they seemed very satisfied with it.

i've used an A8 in a Dimarzio Blaze neck and also an Air Norton 7. i liked the sound improement both times. especially in the AN7, it ended up making it brighter and little warmer, but not harsh. it has this really cool nasaly quality to it now too.

me too. i've gone mostly with A5 in the neck and A8 in the bridge, in several different pickups, and in many different woods--alder, mahogany, mahogany + maple cap, mahogany + maple neck-thru. i think the Alnicos add lots of midrange thickness and depth, more detail and nuance to the high-gain sound. i think they're awesome.

i still need a5's
actually, this summer scott, i might just want to pick up an order of both, cause i see myself going through alot of pickups, and that means alot of replacement magnets

i'd be happy to put another order in of either kind or both, if we got the minimum 20 magents of each kind. after that i might retire from magnet-ordering, but until then i'm up for it. people can post in the stickied thread if they're interested, with which kind and how many (i assume the prices will be the same).
