I love the X2N7 in my schecter, though mine's mahogany. It seems to absorb the character of the guitar a little better than most pickups I've heard. If you add a coil tap tone pot then the tapped mode rules for cleans.
I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ

i've recently just rediscovered how awesome the X2N7 is. using it in my Agile Septor 27" right now. Ryan's right about the clean sounds, but, the coil split sounds are really nice from it. i can also agree that it can be hard to tame and control at times. pickup height is crucial with it. it's so powerful that if it's too close to your strings, the magnet pull will throw them slightly out of tune. it's an interesting pickup that definietly has a voice and character all it's own.
i used the neck and bridge DA7s for about a year and was pretty happy with them (especially the neck version), i ended up just not liking the feel and response of the DA7 bridge. it just has like a "fake" feel to it. it's hard to explain. i didn't run into this with the neck version, which i absolutely love. i have clips of both pickups on my soundclick site. DA7 was used on "Demons Within Creation" and "The Day God Died". X2N7 was used on "Intro". Music page of Ed Drozdowsky - MP3 music page on SoundClick |

I can totally relate to the "feel" issue with the DA7 bridge. I felt the same way. It still feels like that even with an Alnico magnet. Weird

If you do go with the X2N7, you could pop in a mini-switch for series/parallel modes; parallel sounds great for clean, and worked nicely in the shitty six-string RR copy I had a couple of years back

Hmmm... How does the clean on the DA7 sound? Keeping in mind that the clean sound I'm looking for is the intro to Y Tu Mama Tambien found here: MySpace.com - Asesino - LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - Death Metal / Grindcore / Metal - www.myspace.com/asesino.

Quote:
that's kind of a dark, slightly dirty clean sound. you should be able to get close to that sound with either the X2N7 or DA7 with a little chorus and delay. |
