Thanks for the C7 recommendations. My 7321 was only meant to tide me over until I find a suitable 7 for my main shitfiddle, then it would serve as a backup. When the funds are right, I'll have to give the C7 a look. Question: does it have a painted neck, or is it a satin finish? I prefer satin/natural necks.

The Maple neck/Mahog body debate got me thinking... I remember playing a S7320 and a RG7321 through a DSL50 and thought the two sounded nearly identical (flubby low B, high E and B strings were dull). Must'a been the shitty stock pickups, I suppose. Then again, Marshalls seem to be less picky about the type of guitar than Mesa's do IME.

the construction of the guitar has the most to do with the sound.

it's not just mahogany body and neck with maple cap. there have been LPs with maple necks (ie Zakk Wylde model) that still sound like an LP.
