New Jp7: Neck bow needs treatment
Well I just got a used JP7 and the neck is severely bowed:
![]() The string height at the 1st fret is 1mm and at the 24th it's about 5mm! I measured the neck relief to be about 2mm. Do you think I would be able to fix this by adjusting the truss rod given that I haven't really done any tech work before or would you recommend taking it to a proper tech to fix it? |

It looks like you could use a neck shim. Adjusting the truss rod is not required.

Why? That's probably how the neck came to be like this.

Mesh, there's no way you can sight a guitar neck from that picture to tell whether or not the truss rod needs to be adjusted

I lowered the bridge and the strings were really flabby even with the saddles all the way back, and there wasn't much of an improvement in the relief. Actually 2mm is wrong, I was measuring from the fingerboard instead of the top of a fret and I don't have a really accurate way of measuring the gap...but the bottom line is it's way too high. I don't know whether to adjust the truss rod tomorrow and take it to a tech if that doesn't help or just to take it to a tech straight away.

give it a bit of a tweak, and if you cant fix it, then take it to a tech
theres no reason for everyone to flip out about adjusting trussrods shit, when i got my first guitar, the relief was fucking nuts, and i had to adjust it myself, before i could play the damn thing. dude at the shop just told me "this way makes it curve more, this way makes it straighten out/curve the other way. Adjust as you need to, just use some sense and youll be fine" its not a big deal really. if the relief is really high, adjusting it to be a bit more straight isnt going to hurt anything, especially if your probably taking it to a tech anyways use this as a good opportunity to learn

You moved the saddles all the way back? Why?
