Xtremevillan's Tremol-No Adventures III
Please repost whatever you said from PT I (database rollback) and PT II (mysteriously erased)
I think this was the jist of it... --- Well, I had my RG550 shipped to my friend's house. My parents would flip if they found it. Trudging through inches of snow in my car, I went to my friend's house, thanked him and his folks, and went home...placed it on my stoop. Mom: HEY NEAL YOUR GUITAR CAME! Dad: HEY NEAL MY FIST IS GOING TO YOUR FACE! Needless to say, I locked myself in my room with a trash can and a knife. Pretend this is a picstory! Opening the box. Slitting that one special piece of tape, aw yeah. What's this? Another box? Epiphone? The fuck?! Oh, I see... Hey, a hard case! Latch 1, Latch 2, Latch 3 IT'S AN IBANEZ RG550 FLIP FLOP PURPLE!!Oh, look, it's so pretty. Hey, EMG's and a Tremol-No! *monkeys around* hey, it's full floating! Hey...I can't lock it...*loosens strings* ...A spring popped out. Shit, another popped out. Well, the last one popped out, and my tremolo popped out. TO THE TECH! |

Villan-
I remember you saying something about going from the current gauge strings to 10-52. A little rough for a 6, but do-able. You'll probably need a 4th spring (depending on how you like your trem to feel). Save yourself a few bucks and do the trem setup yourself. It really is pretty easy. Regarding the Tremol-No: Please watch the Install video- I talk about tips and tricks on how to setup your guitar properly with a Tremol-No. DO NOT USE THE TREM BAR WHILE THE TREMOL-NO IS IN HARDTAIL MODE!!! You will damage your guitar, the trem itself, the trem arm, the trem block and/or the Tremol-No. Your Tremol-No 'slipped' because of a safety feature I built into the units to help prevent damage when someone used the trem bar while they have the unit locked down. The slipping probably saved you from having to buy a new trem arm. ![]()

This makes me feel like a further idiot.
Understood: When it's in locked mode no trem barz. I'm not that expert yet to do a guitar setup myself (or a pickup install for that matter). When it is locked, is it SECURELY locked? I think before I put the whammy in when I locked it and bent a step up it unlocked and went all crazy on me. I really need to start working out. |

You shouldn't feel like an idiot. My post certainly wasn't meant that way (I save all that for Glensite
). I just meant to further inform you....to teach a little. That's all."Securely locked?" Yes, BUT the trem bar provides fantastic leverage. Ever notice how much easier it is to move your trem with the bar instead of digging your fingers under the back of the trem and trying to lift it for a dive? If the thumbscrews slipped because of a string bend, they probably weren't tight enough. If you can operate a screwdriver, an allen wrench, and a paper towel, you can setup the trem on a guitar. Just like playing- practice makes perfect. |

Oh, I gotcha. My tech asked me a few Q's like since this has EMG's are you sure it doesn't need to be grounded or whatev. Wasn't sure but he said he'll take care of it.
Another thing that has my mind kinda slipping: This guy is using Ernie Balls because those were the only ones he had in the store, unless I wanted to spend 8 bucks and make a "custom" D'Addario pack. I usually use D'Addarios and I'm sure that if I set my tremolo to awesome-flow that I can use different strings and it'll be OK? And one more thing, I told the tech guy said that if he can't install the tremol-no I'll do it myself. Since this is a 10-52 set, the claw thing might not be straight...meaning s t s s - - - - - (spring, tremol-no, spring, spring) might turn into _ - - - - Or something. Would the tremol-no work then? |

Villan- it doesn't really matter what order/position you put the springs in. Since both the trem block and the spring claw are solid masses, tension will be equal no matter the positioning.
If your tech is asking about EMG wiring, you need to find a new tech. On Long Island, talk to a guy named Sal Tine. HOME He's Ibanez-friendly and does great work. Fair prices too. |

I'm assuming he was asking about the wirings because the tremolno guide says something about it.
But the last time I got a guitar 10-52 it was like but whatever like you said it should be good.--- ![]() ...Holy shit. |

If he's a tech, he should know that EMGs shouldnt be grounded in any circumstance.
Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high, Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie, Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally. Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread Its branches like a Temple overhead. ~Charles Baudelaire http://www.myspace.com/impurity Brutal Skullfucking Death Metal |
