Blackout and the 18v mod

I have just found out about this 18v mod for EMGs which i think ill try with my Eclipse but what i wanted to know was can it be done with Blackouts also? And If so, is it even necessary?

Ill be getting my set of Blackouts (stock permitting) next week and was wondering what everyones choice is so far ie bridge in bridge or neck in bridge? I read on another thread that the neck apparently has the same characteristics as an EMG 85 (or 707) which i prefer over an 81. Has anyone else found this is the case at all?

If no one knows ill give them both a bash when i get them and let you all know. Im just curious in the meantime

ps i hope im not repeating anyones past questions, i couldn't find another thread similar when i searched. Cheers!

People have tried the mod with the Blackouts but found that it sounded weird, so I don't think it would be necessary really.

I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ

No benefit in using 18v with Blackouts, unlike EMGs.

Frank has specifically said NOT to use them with 18v.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Awesome, so this further adds to the supposed greatness of these pickups? Sweet right out of the box! Im really looking forward to giving these suckers a burl. Im not sure how long they have been kicking around for but im pretty sure they have just arrived in the last few months here in Australia. Does that sound right HaGGuS?

Theres a couple of youtube clips demoing the 6 string versions but no 7 string ones. If i can be bothered displaying my average guitar skills i will post one of my own trying both the neck then bridge in the bridge position, for anyone who is curious to hear them.

Thanks guys for the replies

I think you just didn't read a thing anyone just posted man.

Frank Falbo, the DESIGNER of these pickups, has specifically said not to use them with 18V.

Yes. EMGs sound better with 18v because the tone is so compressed and squished, so the extra battery helps more lows pass through, more headroom, etc. Blackouts were designed to sound that way, they already have great dynamics, tons of bass response, passive-like volume knob sensitivity, more transparency so the guitars natural characteristics aren't lost, etc.

Also, youtube clips are always enjoyable to watch, but they won't really be accurate or prove anything one way or another due to the low fidelity.

HaGGuS, those prices are cheap as! We do get screwed a bit here price-wise. I called the Aus supplier today also and they said 6 week wait on them too, so maybe eBay it is. Thanks for the info.

zimbloth, yeah good point about the youtube vidz. I guess they are only good for showing off your chops, which i have none!
